Calculated the way Indian customs does it. Assessable value = invoice at the CBIC customs rate + freight + insurance (1.125% of the invoice when the actual figure isn't known). BCD and AIDC are charged on the assessable value, SWS on the BCD, and IGST on the assessable value plus all duties. The supplier payment uses the bank (ECB) rate. Rates marked Indicative are our estimate: confirm the exact rate for your product description and HSN code before filing.

How this calculator works

Indian customs charges duty on the CIF value — your goods plus freight and insurance. If you don't know your insurance cost, customs adds 1.125% of FOB, which we use here.

  1. Basic Customs Duty = CIF × BCD rate
  2. Social Welfare Surcharge = 10% of BCD
  3. IGST = (CIF + BCD + SWS) × IGST rate

How is import duty calculated in India?

+

Duty is charged on the CIF (assessable) value. Basic Customs Duty is applied at the rate for your HS code, Social Welfare Surcharge is 10% of the BCD, and IGST is charged on CIF plus BCD plus SWS.

What is landed cost?

+

Landed cost is the total cost of getting a product into your warehouse: factory price, freight, insurance, customs duties, agent fees, port and local transport charges.

Where do I find the Basic Customs Duty rate for my product?

+

Find your 8-digit HS code and check the current Customs Tariff on the CBIC website, or ask your customs broker. Our team can also help classify your product.
